Automated milking on large dairy farms
Astronaut Max
Introduction
Keep it large and simple
Lely Astronaut Max perfects the concept of decentralized automated milking on large dairy farms. It delivers filtered and cooled milk to the milk tanks over large distances and supplies centralized cleaning detergents and utilities like vacuum, hot cleaning and udder care products to the milking robots.
The Lely Astronaut Max optimizes the workload for large scale dairy operations and is designed to maximize efficiency, reliability, hygiene and safety.
USP
Efficient
The Lely Astronaut Max is designed to shorten the payback period compared to regular setups with a Central Unit serving two Astronaut robots through increased milking capacity, labor savings and more efficient cooling, water and herd health management.
Central control
Central control of decentral milking through clear and simple insights, plannable maintenance and integrated Horizon management software. The Lely Astronaut Max makes it easier to expand your dairy operation.
Safe and well organized
The Lely Astronaut Max offers a safe and pleasant, well-organized working environment with centralized equipment and chemical handling and optimized standard procedures.
Cow comfort
The cow remains the center point by stimulating free-cow traffic. The Lely Astronaut Max offers a quiet and stress-free environment for cows by reducing noise and people movement, while also increasing robot availability for low-ranked cows.
The Lely Astronaut Max
Features
In order to ensure peace and safety in the pen and centralized work areas, the Lely Astronaut Max combines the power of three units in one central location outside the pen.

The receiver unit collects milk from all connected Astronauts independently. Its dual-tank setup enables simultaneous cleaning and milking. Additionally, the unit serves as a milk buffer. Milk can be pumped over large distances through the milk house, where the milk is filtered and cooled before being delivered to the milk tank.

The central cleaning, Clean In Place (CIP), unit is responsible for the independent cleaning and aftercare of the connected Astronauts in order to maximize robot availability. This unit supplies cold water, hot acid and alkaline cleaning water for all the rinses throughout the day. Push lines provide on-demand brush cleaning, sanitizer and udder care products.

The vacuum unit supplies milk and the transport vacuum for all connected Lely Astronauts. Like all critical components of the Lely Astronaut Max, the vacuum unit features redundant pumps. In the event of a pump failure, the system remains unaffected, allowing maintenance to be performed without downtime. This ensures the Lely Astronaut Max can handle large quantities of milk daily.
